SEATTLE -- The Seattle Mariners on Monday released Milton Bradley, ending the struggling outfielders brief and tumultuous tenure with the team. Anze Kopitar Premier Jersey . The Mariners had designated Bradley for assignment on May 9, giving them 10 days to trade, release or send him to the minors. The 33-year-old Bradley had been making $13 million this season. Bradley hit .218 with two homers and 13 RBIs in 28 games this season. He was suspended for one game in early May for bumping an umpire, ejected May 6 for arguing a called third strike and booed by home fans at one point for the perception he was dogging on defence. Bradley came to Seattle on Dec. 18, 2009, from the Chicago Cubs for pitcher Carlos Silva. Bradley publicly blamed Chicagos fans and media for running him out of town. NBA LOCKOUT: Wow! Common sense and finding a middle ground finally took over as themes late last week. Good for the game, owners, players and most importantly, the fans. Now we wait for both sides to ratify the deal and then open up for business. Fingers crossed. Look forward to the season and lots to talk about in the world of the NBA. 2. NBA CONDITIONING: With a lockout-shortened season expected to be 66 games through late April, the challenge of conditioning and fatigue will be huge factors. Well all get to see which players took care of themselves and trained very hard during the time off. With that being said, game speed and game conditioning are a whole lot different than working out at the health club and playing pick-up ball at 75% of intensity. We saw this with the NFL lockout early on and well see it again in a few weeks. Some teams will open your eyes right out of the gate because theyre better than expected and others will disappoint. A big factor will be which teams are in shape and healthy, which in large part is based upon who paid the price in the off-season. In time, as weve seen in the NFL, the better teams eventually get it together and the cream rises to the top over the long haul but Im fully expecting some surprises early on. 3. UNC TAR HEELS: Watched their upset loss at UNLV on Saturday night. Did I expect Roy Williams loaded squad to go undefeated? No. Theyll be fine over the course of the season. Ill say this though, they love to play a fast-paced game and have tons of offensive weapons but they seem to be offensively focused right now and the defensive intensity isnt there yet. This is a championship contender but to be that, they need to guard. The front line of Barnes, Zeller and Henson is the best in NCAA basketball yet with that much size in the world of small ball, sometimes theyre going to have difficult matchups to deal with. The ability to figure out how to defend onn the perimeter and defend the 3-ball will be critical for this squad. Dustin Byfuglien Premier Jersey. 4. NCAA SCANDALS: First Penn State and now Syracuse. The allegations are both disturbing and shocking to hear. Were all sickened by it and Im personally shaking my head in disbelief of how this stuff could go on. Sad for the alleged victims. I said this when I was coaching and Ill say it again, the NCAA has turned a blind eye to lots that go on at the respective universities and some universities protect whats good for them. Im a big believer that there should be an independent organization that is funded by the enormous dollars that come from the NCAA tournament contract and the bowl games and it would have a simple task. I would have a retired/experienced law enforcement person assigned to each Division 1 campus to oversee that the integrity of issues like sexual abuse, gambling, drug and alcohol abuse and contact of student-athletes with unsavory types is monitored. Im not saying that all issues would be caught but if you have someone with great instincts keeping an eye out for things that dont have an interest in the university or NCAA-biased slant, youve got a better chance to catch, prevent and correct some issues. Just a thought, the dollars are there (belive me they waste their fair share) to pay someone approx $50-70K to keep an eye out for things makes a bit of sense to me. I think it would have an impact in a positive way and keep everyone on their toes. 5. NBA PLAYERS IN CHINA: Lots of chatter out of China the past few days that NBA players that signed deals over there want to break their contracts and come back to the NBA. Bottom line: the players knew that they were signing a deal that would prohibit them from coming back for a year. Honour your contract. Id be very disappointed if the Chinese Basketball Federation, FIBA or the NBA allowed these guys to return before they honour their deals. The players and their agents knew what they were getting into and need to take the high road. Cant be a one-way street. ' ' '
