But without pausing to think about it, Martin called and played a long angle-raise, molar-rattling takeout, driving his own stone from out near the edge of the sheet back some 25 feet to remove the shot rock and score three points. As the German stone exited the rings, the crowd exploded in a deafening roar that shook the building. Behind the sheet, the Canadian coaching staff rose from their seats to give the skip a rare standing ovation, a move that got the normally even-keeled skip to break out in a wide smile. "[Kevin] was just feeling it out there tonight," said Hebert. "That was the loudest Ive ever heard a crowd go. It brought the house down. Thats a special feeling. You dont get to feel that much, maybe hockey players do in the playoffs, but that was unbelievable. "When you make one like that and [hear] the roar of the crowd, thats why you play," said Martin. For Kapp, the loss was one of missed opportunities against a team that doesnt give up very many. "At the beginning we just missed some shots to put more pressure on them," he said. "[Kevin] really played well. That was a fantastic raise." The fans have become almost as big a story as the curlers. All three draws on Day 1 were sold out and the yells and screams - not always at the appropriate times - have given the event a wild atmosphere not found at traditional curling championships. And it appears the curlers are loving it as much as the fans even though at times they have to resort to hand signals to call sweeping as the Hurry Hards get drowned out. "Its not even like a curling crowd," Hebert said. "They cheer when people are in the hack, they dont care. Theyre having a good time, having beers, thats what its all about. Theyre Canadian fans and thats what they do for all their sports. It must be a little intimidating for the other teams." "Early in the round robin, you dont normally get as up as that," Martin said. "When the crowd is so loud, its just so much fun." Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said Thursday that Jones will play Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, and owner Jerry Jones said the team didnt plan any discipline after the player got into a scuffle with his bodyguard Tuesday night in the bathroom of an upscale Dallas hotel. Police were called, but there were no arrests or charges filed. "I am very disappointed in that were having to deal with this," Jerry Jones said. Phillips said he talked to the team about the incident Thursday morning. "What Im trying to do is get this team to focus on this game and the team that we are playing," Phillips said. "Were moving on in that direction." Adam Jones was suspended for 17 months by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for numerous off-field problems. He was arrested six times and involved in 12 incidents requiring police intervention. Goodell said in a radio interview Thursday that the league was investigating the matter. He said he didnt speak with Adam Jones individually during a previously scheduled meeting with the entire Cowboys team Wednesday night. The Titans distanced themselves from Jones and eventually traded him to Dallas for draft picks.
