(Sports Network) - After their hottest pitcher was able to cool off the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night, the Florida Marlins hope that Javier Vazquez can continue his recent turnaround and pitch them to a series victory in tonights finale of a three-game set at Chase Field. The Diamondbacks ran their winning streak to seven straight games with a decisive 15-4 setback in Mondays opener, which was also the Marlins third loss in four games. Florida, which is two games behind Philadelphia for first place in the National League East, improved to 5-3 on a nine-game road trip despite shortstop Hanley Ramirez missing his second straight game due to back pain. He remains day-to-day. The right-handed Vazquez is coming off his second solid outing in a row on Friday at the Dodgers. After throwing seven shutout innings in a win over the Rays on May 21, Vazquez was charged with two runs on three hits, including two solo homers -- over six frames, but did not get a decision in his teams 3-2 loss. Javier pitched a great game, Gaby Sanchez said. We had chances to score runs. We just didnt come through tonight. The 34-year-old Vazquez is 3-4 with a 6.02 earned run average through 10 starts and 5-3 with a 3.92 ERA in 15 career meetings with the D-Backs. Though the Diamondbacks failed to extend their winning streak to eight games, Johnson and Upton continue to drive in runs. Johnson homered for the third time in two games and is batting .419 (13-for-31) over a seven-game hitting streak with five homers and nine RBI, while Upton is 8-for-12 over his last three games with two homers, four RBI and five runs scored. Neither have had much success versus Vazquez. Johnson is hitless in five at- bats against him, while Upton is just 1-for-8 with an RBI. Ian Kennedy suffered his first loss since April 13 last night, yielding three runs on five hits over five innings. I wasnt throwing strikes with anything, Kennedy said. I beat myself, thats what I feel like. Arizona, which has still won 15 of its past 18 contests, is a half-game ahead of San Francisco for first place in the NL West and turns tonight to Daniel Hudson. Hudson will be trying to win his fourth straight start in his first ever outing versus the Marlins, but will likely need to be better than his previous start to do so. Hudson is 6-1 since losing his first four starts of the year, but his offense bailed him out in his most recent outing on Friday in Houston. The 24-year-old righty was charged with six runs -- five earned -- on eight hits over six innings, but received a 7-6 victory. I saw a lot of character, Arizona manager Gibson told his teams website of why he stayed with Hudson. I just felt he was the best guy. He was throwing the ball very well later in the game, and I felt he was the guy to hold them down. Hudson, who had allowed just six runs in his previous four starts, improved to 6-5 with a 4.12 ERA through 11 starts this year. He went 7-1 with a 1.69 ERA in 11 starts with Arizona a season ago following a trade from the White Sox. These two clubs are meeting for the first time since splitting six matchups a season ago. It enters this evenings tilt with a chance to match the franchise record for most consecutive wins at home after making it eight straight victories up north with a 104-93 triumph over Philadelphia last Wednesday. All-Star Chris Bosh had 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Raptors, who havent won nine in a row at home since February 23 - March 8, 2000. Since December 13 the Raptors are 14-1 on their home floor and tied a team record with 29 wins prior to the All-Star break. Bosh made a game-winning free throw with five seconds remaining to help the Eastern Conference top the West at the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, finishing with 23 points and 10 rebounds in 29 minutes. Bosh is averaging 28.0 points, 12.4 rebounds and shooting .573 from the field over the last five games.
