Yes, Favre retired and then unretired because he thought he could still play, and yes, the Green Bay Packers moved on because they thought Aaron Rodgers was a better fit at quarterback. You know what? They were both right. Favre has been outstanding as a Minnesota Viking and, at age 40, might be one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the NFL. With a chance to take the long-suffering Vikings to a place where theyve long suffered - the Super Bowl. Can we not just sit back and enjoy Favres miraculous season and stop talking about the fact that he used to play for the Packers? Enough. Enough already. Steve Simmons, Sun Media: My thumb is up to Brian McKeever, the cross country skier from Canmore who made Canadian history this week when he became the first Paralympic athlete to be named to a Canadian Olympic team. Now you have to almost pause for a moment and really digest what that means. It brings a credibility to the Paralympics that weve never known before. McKeever is 90 percent blind - the 10 percent vision he has is peripheral - and he will be competing in the 50-kilometre event in Vancouver next month. Just getting to the Olympics is a remarkable achievements for any athlete. Brian McKeever takes remarkable to a whole new level. He suggested that LeBron James re-negged on his vow to compete in the NBAs annual Slam Dunk contest because the competition wasnt worthy. Dave Hodge, TSN: My thumb is down to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and Im only trying to be fair here to other teams in the CFL that get criticized when they make puzzling moves - like the Toronto Argonauts when they hired Bart Andrus. The Bombers new general manager is Joe Mack, who hasnt worked in the CFL for more than 20 years and who wasnt Winnipegs first choice for the job of rebuilding an organization that hit an all-time low last season. Winnipeg preferred him as an assistant to Brendan Tama, who preferred the Saskatchewan job. Mack needs to hire a coach, find a quarterback, sign free agents and repair the teams image. Emily Brydon of Fernie, B.C., was the top Canadian in the final day of training for Fridays race, finishing fourth. Britt Janyk of Whistler, B.C., was 14th while Kelly VanderBeek of Kitchener, Ont., was disqualified after missing a gate. Paerson skied through minus-20 temperatures to cover the three-kilometre Mens Olympic Downhill Run in one minute 51.36 seconds. Frances Marie Marchand-Arvier was second in 1:51.46 while Vonn, the defending World Cup overall and downhill champion, was third in 1:51.82. Vonn, of Park City, Utah, has won a downhill at Lake Louise each of the last four years. Paersons best finish was a third in 2006, but said the American can be caught. "Every year, everybody is beatable," said Paerson, who has 38 World Cup victories, mostly in technical events. "For Lindsey, she is just going to go in relaxed and do what she always does here. "Ive been there a lot of years where I won. Its hard to get a higher and higher tempo. Its easier to hunt. I hope this year we hunt well." Vonn, skiing on a sore knee, won Wednesdays training but said a mistake on the course cost her Thursday. "It was pretty passive skiing," she said. "With the light I was a little nervous. "I never really like to do that well in the last training run. I like to feel like I can give more on race day. You never like to feel like you have it. Youve got to always keep working." Brydon, who was timed in 1:52.01, has always wanted to reach the podium at Lake Louise but often crumbled under the pressure she puts on herself. Managing to remain relaxed but focused will be her challenge Friday. "In my past, and in many races I do, I tried to hard," she said. "When I try too hard its not a productive thing. I get tense, I pinch myself off at the gate. "When Ive done really well its almost like a freeing of the mind. I am wiling to take the risk but they are controlled. Heading into Fridays race without having completed a successful run down the hill does stack the odds against her. "That is part of racing," said VanderBeek, who placed third in a super-giant slalom here in 2006. "It happens and this is where I have to draw on my experience. Luckily I know this track." Another downhill race is scheduled for Saturday and the first super-G of the season Sunday. Marchand-Arvier skied with a skull and crossbones drawn on the white tape that protected her face from the cold. She has never won a World Cup race but gained confidence from her training. "Last year I didnt ski fast here and I had a lot of problem in my training," she said. "This year I tried to be very fast in the training. "This takes some of the pressure off. I am good in the race when I do good training." Among other Canadians in the field of 61 finishers, Larisa Yurkiw of Owen Sound, Ont., was 36th in 1:54.24; Emilie Desforges of Montreal 45th in 1:54.70; Georgia Simmerling of West Vancouver, B.C., 49th in 1:55.16; Sherry Lawrence of Calgary 50th in 1:55.21; and Kelly McBroom of Canmore, Alta., 53rd in 1:55.63.
