Winning my first title is still very far yet, Cibulkova said. Its still one match. Im so excited about this, about my game and that Im in the final of a Tier I for the first time. I will try to play my best (Sunday). Cibulkovas appearance in the final assures she will be in the top 20 when the next rankings come out Monday, which is a long way from her No. 156 ranking at the end of 2006. I feel like I belong in the top 20 and maybe I can still be better, Cibulkova said. Im really happy to be there because my goal for this year was to start in the top 50, and now I will get to the top 20. For me its like a dream. Safina continued her torrid play of late, improving her record since May 11 to 27-3 and following up her victory in Los Angeles last week with an appearance in the final here. Shes been playing amazing since the clay court season, Azarenko said. Shes playing like the number one player in the world. Safina said shes not ready to start shooting for that top spot. Its still so far away, she said. If I would be, like, top five, I would have maybe 200 points between us. But its still a big difference in the points. Semifinal Saturday was plagued by rain, as the afternoon semi pitting Cibulkova against Bartoli was suspended three times for a total of four hours and 11 minutes. Bartoli took the first set 6-4 before the first interruption, but the third time play was stopped the rain continued for three hours, 20 minutes with Cibulkova leading 2-1 in the second set. It really helped me that it started raining because I was able to go in the locker-room and talk to my coach, Cibulkova said. It wasnt easy to talk to my coach because he was really mad. Then I realized that if I start to play my game, to put more pressure on her, to step in the court, then I have a chance to play against her and to win this match. When play resumed just before 9 p.m., Cibulkova and Bartoli had their match moved over to a side court while Safina and Azarenko played their semifinal on centre court. This was the first time in the tournament Cibulkova was pushed to three sets as Bartoli won the final four games of the first set to win it 6-4, showing no evident side effects from the twisted ankle she suffered Friday evening. Coming out of the second rain suspension, Bartoli broke Cibulkova to tie the set 2-2 and actually went ahead 4-3. But Cibulkova held serve and then broke Bartoli at love before serving out the set. Cibulkova broke serve to open the third set then saved two crucial break point opportunities for Bartoli to go up 5-3. Cibulkova then broke Bartolis serve once more to close out the match. In the only uninterrupted match of the day, the un-seeded doubles of team of Russian Maria Kirilenko and Italys Flavia Pennetta upset the second-seeded tandem Austrian Rennae Stubbs and Kveta Peschke of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-0.
