DUNEDIN, Fla. David Freese world series jersey . -- Brandon Morrow took a liner off his right shoulder in the second inning. Luckily for the Toronto Blue Jays, it looked a lot worse than it was. Morrow shook off the comebacker and pitched four innings to help the Blue Jays beat the Tampa Bay Rays 9-3 on Sunday. "I flinched and blocked it," Morrow said of Tim Beckhams hard-hit ball. "It hit more of my finger (sticking out of his glove), so thats sore, but I went out the next inning." Morrow threw to first to retire Beckham and end the inning. Manager John Farrell thought about pulling the right-hander at that point but "I said I was alright," Morrow said, grinning. Still, the Blue Jays cut short his outing by one inning. He allowed two runs, one earned, and three hits, struck out six and walked none. "In a way we dodged a bullet," Farrell said, "and it factored into our decision. He was at (65) pitches after four. We had him throw his fifth inning in the bullpen for that reason. "He came out fine. If thered been any sign of tightness hed have been out immediately." Jose Bautista and Eric Thames homered for Toronto, which finished with 15 hits. Thames drove in three runs and Bautista and Yunel Escobar had two RBIs apiece. Bautista hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning and his second spring homer in the third. Escobar had a two-run double in the second. Bautista, who led the majors with 54 homers last season, hit a first-pitch fastball from Cory Wade over the wall in left. "I knew I hit it well enough and Id be lying if I said that I didnt know it was a home run," Bautista said. "Its happened before. ... It doesnt happen every day but when you do it, it feels very good." Tampa Bays Johnny Damon singled and scored on Dan Johnsons grounder in the first. B.J. Upton doubled and scored in the fourth. CINCINNATI -- Rookie right tackle Andre Smith broke his left foot during practice Tuesday, only two days after he ended his holdout with the Cincinnati Bengals. The first-round pick sustained a small fracture in the foot during a non-contact drill in his third workout since signing his deal, another major setback to his chances of winning the starting job this season. "Our medical staff tells me the injury will not require surgery," coach Marvin Lewis said. "Its too soon to closely predict how long it will be before he can return to practice, but it looks like hes going to miss a few weeks." The Bengals took Smith with the sixth overall pick, expecting him to start at right tackle. A long contract impasse forced him to miss training camp and the first three pre-season games. He agreed to a four-year deal that includes US$21 million guaranteed on Sunday and worked out with the team later in the day, hoping to play in the final pre-season game Thursday against Indianapolis. Now, the Bengals will keep second-year lineman Anthony Collins at right tackle. Collins was a fourth-round draft pick last year and started six games at right tackle becausse of injuries. He took snaps with the starting offence on Tuesday for the first time since he got hurt. "He looked remarkably improved," Lewis said. "He looked pretty good. He was moving better." Palmer would like to play in the final pre-season game; Lewis will make a decision shortly before the start. "Were going to play out whats best for Carson as we go forward," Lewis said. "It was good to see him get back and involved in the things well do today and tomorrow, and then when we start next week. The goal is to have him ready to go full-speed by Monday." ' ' '
